THIRTY-ONE

July 1988

Davis County, Georgia

Rick groaned as ecstasy washed over him. His whole body went rigid with pleasure. He’d never had an orgasm from a hand—literally—other than his own. The feeling was incredible and indescribable. He kissed Crystal deeply, running his fingers through her long hair.

Her hand slipped out of his pants and slid across his chest. The hand job had been unexpected, but very much appreciated. In the heat of the moment, though, and with their lack of sexual experience, he’d soaked the inside of his boxers.

They were in the back seat of her car, parked on an isolated dirt road. He wondered if she’d ever been there with Mark but didn’t have the heart to ask. She’d said she was a virgin, but that didn’t mean she hadn’t done other stuff with her boyfriend. He’d never done more than a closed-mouth kiss before meeting Crystal.

They’d managed to see each other almost every night for the past week, sneaking away for late night meetings while their families slept. He spent hours sharing his life with Crystal, she doing the same. Rick felt closer to her than he’d been with anyone in his life. He was in love with her, though he knew he couldn’t tell her that. Not yet. She felt incredible guilt over what she’d done behind Mark’s back.

As they continued kissing, his hand, which had been rubbing her breast through her shirt, fell to rub against her thigh. Her legs opened a little, and he let his fingers trail across her inner thigh. She sighed into his mouth as they moved to caress against the crotch of her shorts. He pressed harder, and she moaned, her hips shifting. Rick slid his hand up and under the waistband of her shorts, where he rubbed against the outside of her panties. They were warm and moist, and he felt himself getting hard again already.

When her legs opened wider, he slipped a finger around the thin fabric separating them. She gasped and her hips thrust against his hand. He had no idea what he was doing, but she seemed to enjoy everything he did to her. When she cried out, her nails digging into his shoulder, he grinned, feeling proud and accomplished.

“Did you…enjoy that?” he asked. “Did I do okay?”

“You did great,” she said smiling.

“I’ve never done that before.”

When she didn’t say the same, he tried to push down the distress that wanted to take over. He shouldn’t expect her to have saved herself for him. They’d just met, for Christ’s sake. And she’d been dating Mark for a very long time. There was no doubt that they’d at least experimented with stuff.

She gave him a quick kiss, then said, “We should be getting home. I know you got work in the morning.”

“Which is only in a few hours,” he joked. “You’re worth it, though,” he added, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear.

They moved back to the front seats and Crystal drove him to a spot down the street from his house.
